Vibration Monitoring & Assessment

Vibration Assessment and Measuring

Compliance with British Standards for Vibration

Vibration from construction, demolition, or industrial activity can lead to significant project risks, ranging from structural damage concerns to legal challenges from neighbouring residents. I provide specialist vibration monitoring and consultancy in accordance with BS 7385 and BS 5228-2.

Whether you are discharging a planning condition for a new development or require real-time monitoring to protect sensitive neighbouring structures, I ensure your project meets the necessary regulatory and safety standards.

Core Vibration Monitoring Services

I provide a range of technical assessments to quantify and mitigate the impact of ground-borne vibration:

  • Structural Integrity Monitoring (BS 7385): I assess the risk of “cosmetic” or structural damage to buildings from nearby piling, excavation, or heavy plant. By monitoring Peak Particle Velocity (PPV), I ensure that vibration levels remain within the safety limits defined by BS 7385-2.
  • Human Comfort Assessments (BS 6472): Vibration that is safe for a building can still be intrusive for occupants. I conduct surveys using the Vibration Dose Value (VDV) metric to assess the likelihood of adverse comments from residents or office workers in accordance with BS 6472-1.
  • Industrial Vibration Surveys: For sites located near heavy industrial machinery or railways, I assess the impact of constant or intermittent vibration on sensitive equipment or residential amenity.
  • Construction & Demolition Monitoring (BS 5228): I install on-site vibration monitors to provide continuous data during high-impact works. These systems can be configured with real-time “alert” triggers, notifying site managers immediately if vibration thresholds are approached.
  • CEMP & Section 61 Support: I provide the vibration chapters for Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMP) and assist with Section 61 applications, outlining the “Best Practicable Means” (BPM) to minimise vibration impact on the surrounding community.
