Sound Insulation Testing (Approved Document E)

Sound Insulation Performance Testing

Achieving compliance with Part E of the Building Regulations is a critical final step for any residential development, conversion, or HMO project. I provide professional Sound Insulation Testing services, ensuring your project meets the necessary standards for airborne and impact sound insulation.

From new-build housing schemes to the conversion of historic buildings into flats, I oversee the testing process to ensure it is conducted in strict accordance with Approved Document E. My goal is to provide a seamless service that allows you to secure your completion certificates from Building Control without unnecessary delays.

What is Part E Sound Testing?

If you are creating a new dwelling through construction or a “change of use” (conversion), you are legally required to demonstrate that the separating walls and floors provide adequate sound insulation. I manage Pre-Completion Sound Testing to verify that your build meets these requirements.

Services include:

  • Airborne Tests: Carried out on separating walls and floors to measure resistance against noise like speech or television.
  • Impact Tests: Carried out on separating floors to measure the transmission of footfall and impact noise.
  • Fast Results & Reporting: I understand that sound testing is often the final hurdle before handover. I ensure that all data is processed quickly, providing you with the formal reports needed for Building Control.

Expert Remedial Advice

I bring a high level of technical pedigree to every project. Having spent seven years operating as a UKAS-accredited sound tester, I have diagnosed a vast range of construction failures and acoustic ‘weak links’ first-hand. This extensive on-site experience allows me to quickly identify exactly why a partition may be underperforming, whether due to flanking paths, hidden structural voids, or poor detailing, and provide the practical specifications needed to achieve a pass.
